Presenting: Vitacura
Vitacura is an exclusive neighbourhood and beside Las Condes and Providencia home to the chilean Upper Class. You will find mostly single houses here, but recently there have been built a lot of luxury apartment-houses. Many big international companies have their headquarters here. Resulting from it´s upmarket and rather discrete character, Vitacura is maybe not the liveliest place but certainly one with a high standard of living, excellent infrastructure and one of the safest places of Santiago. Walking around at night is not a problem, although most people will take the SUV anywhere...
Remember to have a look at metro map when you consider renting a place here, because not all parts of Vitacura are close to the metro. If you don´t dispose of a car, you may also use the bus, which is a convenient way to move around. Buses are cheap and modern, but you can´t pay in cash (you have to hav a a "Bip" Card, which is obtainable in any metro station) and the metro is a lot quicker.
Vitacura is cool and safe. Expect to pay about 20%-100% more than in Providencia, and about the same or a little more than in Las Condes for you Apartment.
Same as Las Condes, another factor that may be important for you in the winter could be the proximity to Ski-Centers that Vitacura offers- if you start from here, you don´t have to pass through the whole city to reach your goal.
